Consequences And Complications Of Constant #heat Wave In Punjab—a Medical Perspective

Rhabdomylosis is is immediate and serious medical emergency. It is characterised  by break down of muscle fibre.High grade fever, dehydration, vomiting , constant body fluids loss through diarrhoea are some of the leadig symptoms.

Punjab, the northern state of India is in the grifth of constant heat weave. The day temperature is above45c.hot and scorching winds blow through out the day.

From medical perspective the heat weave has many health hazards has some serious complications. To name some of these:

Sun stroke
Rhabodomylosis
Hypothermia

Out of all these Rhabodomylosis is the most serious medical emergency. It produces grave and devastating changes in

human body. Rhabodomylosis is condition is produced by scorching heat weave. Rhabodomylosis is the breakdown of muscle fibers mainly of thie, calf and extremities that leads to the release of muscle fiber contents such as Myglobin into the bloodstream. Myglobin is harmful to the kidney and often causes kidney damage and acute renal kidney failure.
When any particular muscle or muscle fibre is damaged or disintegrated a protein called Myglobin is released into the bloodstream. It is then filtered out of the body by the kidneys. Myglobin breaks down into substances that can damage kidney cells and tissues.

Acute renal failure

Due to intense heat weave Skelton muscles are, damaged broken down and disintegrated. Break down products of muscles

and muscles cells are immediately released into blood stream. some of these products are Myglobin that are very dangerous and harmful to the kidney tissues and in many cases leads to acute renal failure. The creatinine level is highly raised in the blood. The severity of the symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, high grade fever, dehydration, muscles pains and aches, confusion of thought process leading to delirium depends upon the muscle damage and weather kidney failure develops.

The muscle damaged may be caused by physical factors such as strenuous exercise, prolonged walking in sun heat, strolling in the heat even at 5 a.m

Diagnosis

The diagnosis is made by blood tests and urinalysis. The content of infection in blood is measured by Erythrocyte sedimentation rate. It must be regularly monitored on daily basis. The severity of infection depends on level of ESR in the blood stream
Treatment

Intravenous fluid must be maintained day and night till the infection subsided. Dextrose is administered intravenously to compensate for the loss of vital fluids through vomiting and diarrhoea.
