Diagnosis
Pelvic ultrasound and transvaginal ultrasound are the only reliable means to establish and confirm the occurrence of ecotopic pregnancy.
Symptoms
The symptoms of ecotopic pregnancy are almost same as of the miscarriage or threatened abortion. The classical symptoms of both threatened abortion and ecotopic pregnancy are amenorrhea, abdominal pains and cramps and vaginal bleeding. If any such emergency occurs, medical help should be sought immediately before developing further complications.
Risk factors

There is multitude of factors that increase a women's likelihood of having an ecotopic pregnancy, but it is important to note that ecotopic pregnancies can occur in women without the involvement of these risk factors. The greatest risk factor for an ecotopic pregnancy is a prior history of an ecotopic pregnancy in the concerned woman. The major risk factors are: history of the pelvic inflammatory disease, history of tubal ligation, contraception failure, previous ecotopic pregnancy, history of infertility etc.
